The Studio Doesn't Need a Studio Anymore

Cindy Conti's testimony on RMC+ is the tell nobody's quoting for the right reason: eighteen months, fourteen projects, twenty-three devices, and the headline everyone repeats is the launch date. What she's actually describing is an operations person doing the work that used to require a full broadcast infrastructure — replay, streaming, deployment — compressed into a role that didn't exist as a job title three years ago. Meanwhile Inevitable keeps recycling its 250,000-euro blockbuster promise to French business press ahead of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, and the two stories are the same story told at different altitudes. One is the ground-level proof, the other is the pitch deck. Neither needs a studio lot, a union crew, or a distribution deal to exist.

What connects this to Kwai's KCL launch in Brazil is the word "non-exclusive." A brand pays a flat fee, no revenue share, for the right to use an episode — which means the content stops being an asset you protect and becomes a template you rent out repeatedly. Conti's twenty-three devices and Kwai's licensing clause point at the same shift: the expensive, defensible part of this industry was never the story. It was the plumbing. That part is now commodity, priced accordingly, and everyone still pitching "blockbuster for 250K" is selling access to the plumbing, not the drama.
